Samskara Release Yoga:
Healing Our Wounds, Releasing our Scars
Through Breath and Gentle Yoga
 
Every event, moment, breath, trauma, and experience is recorded in the body. Often we “stuff” these events into the tissues of the body. When this happens we experience fatigue, physical and emotional pain, spiritual stagnation, fear, depression, anxiety, and a myriad of uncomfortable feelings.
 
Samskara is the Sanskrit word denoting the residual energetic echoes of these experiences which are held within the tissues of the body. Yoga Asana are the postures we commonly refer to as “Yoga”. Through Yoga Asana the Samskara can be released and the energy can be restored to the previously blocked parts of the body/tissues aiding the healing process.
 
One does not have to be an advanced student or even ever having tried yoga before. One does not need to worry about any “pretzel poses”. Very simple, yet deep and gentle postures (asana) done with breathing and relaxation yield profound results.
 
This class is a closed program meaning that it will go for 8 weeks including an introduction class. It is limited to 11 participants. No one will be allowed to start the class after it has begun. Participants are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement due to the possibility of sensitive emotional releases which may occur for some participants.
 
Introduction Class begins Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. This class is required to participate in the program.
 

Weekly classes will start May 19, 2016 Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and will continue for 7 consecutive weeks with the last class being Thursday, June 30, 2016.
 
Participants who are under the care of a physician for specific physical concerns must provide a signed release from their physician that they are able to participate and take full responsibility for taking care of their bodies throughout this program. If care is taken during asana practice, and there is no pushing past one’s limits, there should be no cause for concern of injury in a healthy individual.

Participants who are in psychotherapy or counseling are urged to discuss the impact of emotional release with their therapist and to obtain permission for participation in this class.
 
Though Dr. Bowie is a Clinical Psychologist Licensed in the State of Missouri this program is not to be considered as individual therapy or as a replacement for psychotherapy or counseling in any form.
 
Each person’s body is different in their size, range of motion, history of injuries, and personal limitations. This is a very slow moving class utilizing props and supports tailored to each person’s individual needs. You as the participant and owner of your body are responsible for making sure that you do not move too deeply or ignore the genuine discomforts of your body.
 
What do you need to bring?
  • A yoga mat
  • A notebook or journal
  • A willingness for exploration, growth, and healing

Who may participate? What do I need to know?

  • Adults over the age of 18.
  • A general level of fitness is suggested, but not required.
  • One will be getting in the floor for asana practice.
  • If you have a health condition for which you are being treated by a physician you will need permission from that physician stating that you may participate.
  • Size/weight is not a criteria. Even those who are quite heavy may safely and effectively perform asana.
  • If you are being treated for a mental health diagnosis you need to make your clinician aware that you will be participating in this class as emotional issues may come up.
  • Previous yoga experience is not required or a criteria.
  • Please note that at this time, this class is not open to pregnant women.
